The beauty of the Ahr valley attracts
both wine lovers and tourists alike.
"The red wine paradise" that is the Ahr is
the smallest of Germany's wine producing regions.
The river Ahr
cuts deeply into the mountains on its way to the Rhine, so that
the grapes on the 520 hectares of vineyards located in this protected
valley grow in an almost Mediterranean climate.
Unlike many
other wine growing areas in Germany, the red wines are the stars
in this area.
The 35 kilometer Rotweinwanderweg, the red
wine hiking trail, which leads from Altenahr to Bad Bodendorf
through the steep vineyard terraces, is very popular.
Comfortable
wine taverns, vintners cottages and the cellars of the winegrowers
cooperatives in the Ahr valley are always open for guests.
The Ahr valley
has managed to stay away from much of the commercialism that you'll
find in many other well known wine regions. The lure of beautiful
scenery, walking and biking trails, spa baths, friendly locals, and world class
wines makes the Ahr region a logical choice for vacation travel...
