Like Rhode Island,
another New England colony that quickly established its Revolutionary
credentials, Vermont became an upstart in the War for Independence
dating back to its earliest days.
Today,
Vermont in the popular imagination is most famous for its indepedent spirit as well as for its natural stores of maple syrup and Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
Its reputation also endures as an East Coast skiing capital featuring world famous Vermont ski resorts at Killington, Sugarbush. Yet another skiing mecca, Stowe, is also connected to
"Sound of Music" fame with the Trapp Family Lodge located there.
Major Vermont tourist attractions include summer vacation fun at Lake Champlain (left); world class
skiing at Vermont ski resorts (middle); and spectacular foliage tours throughout the state in the fall.
Discover acrobats, tight rope walkers, comedians,
great music, and more at Festival of Fools,
Burlington's late summer fling in August.
