Cake: 1 cup water 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate 1/2 cup butter 2 cups flour 2 cups sugar 1/2 cup buttermilk 2 eggs 1-1/4 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Icing: 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate 1/4 cup melted butter 1/2 cup milk 4 cups powdered sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. In a large saucepan, heat water and melt chocolate and 1/2 cup butter. Bring to boil. 3. Remove pan from heat and mix in flour and sugar until blended. 4. Beat in buttermilk, eggs and baking soda until smooth and creamy. 5. Pour into 9 x 13 pan and bake for half an hour or until a toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean. 6. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, prepare the icing by melting together chocolate and 1/4 cup butter. 7. Stir in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Allow to cool. 8. Remove cake from oven and allow to cool before frosting.
